How To Overcome The Fear Of Being Visible

~Pamela Henry

This shadow of
Self doubt
Hammers my longing
For acceptance
With perceived
Judgement
Ever present
In the recesses
Of my mind
I drop to my
Knees
Beckoning these
Lies to
Let me be

I close my eyes
And listen to
My heart song
Persistent
Loving Spirit
Beckoning me home
Time and time
Again
Laying every opportunity
To receive the truth
At my feet

I take a breath
And gently liberate
My blessed
Vulnerability
Beacons of
Pure love
Radiate from my
Heart center
Piercing the
Boundaries of the
Universe and beyond.

Fear Of Being SeenBronnie Ware spent several years as a palliative nurse, caring for patients in the last several weeks of their lives. In her best-selling book, The Top 5 Regrets of The Dying, she revealed the number one regret that the dying patients had, was wishing they’d had the courage to live a life true to themselves and not a life that others expected from them.

That rocked my world. It got me thinking about self sabotage and how it prevents us from living life on our own terms.

Do you find yourself trapped in an endless cycle of dreaming about how magnificent it would be to live the life you really want?

Lately I’ve been digging deep into the idea of visibility. More to the point, the fear of being visible.

I spent much of my career on stage as a vocalist, so it may seem strange that I would have a fear of visibility. But I’ve learned that when we seek new experiences in life or new levels in business, the fear of visibility can keep us locked in the perceived safety of our comfort zone. The more visible you are, the more you may be up for scrutiny by others. What if you put yourself out there and you get laughed at or worse, nobody wants what you have to offer?

As I approached mid life, I knew I was being called to something greater but it meant embracing new ideas that would have me step beyond my current reality. Energy healing and the law of attraction became part of my new lexicon. What would my family and friends think?

And that wasn’t all. Like many of you, I’ve spent much of my life struggling with my body image. Always feeling like I had to be a certain weight to be seen, I would cancel plans to avoid the judgement. I didn’t feel good enough, worthy enough, thin enough, beautiful enough or accomplished enough. Do any of those sound familiar?

In a world where YouTube, Periscope and numerous other video based platforms are considered important business tools, many entrepreneurs are struggling with fear of visibility. The thought of being seen on the world stage raises a big red flag of fear. The truth is, this fear may be rooted in any number of self sabotaging limited beliefs.

These patterns run so deep that it can take time to release the old stories and create new ones that lovingly support you in embracing visibility and making your dreams happen.

I’ve come to understand that releasing the fear of being visible begins with seeing your true self through loving eyes. When you break through and acknowledge that you have gifts to share that are unique unto you, the game changes.

Aligning with your soul purpose allows you to shine with confidence and release any of the perceived limitations you’ve been hanging on to. When you’re clear, you’re in a better position to acknowledge the good opinion of others as simply their opinion.

We are here to support each other in bringing our dreams to life. When you allow yourself to be seen, the Universe brings you amazing new friends and colleagues who share your journey.

Do you have a fear of being visible? What would help you overcome this fear? Please let me know by sharing in the comments below or head over to my Facebook page.

With love and gratitude,
Pamela

      • Thank you Vironika! I appreciate your heart felt comment. It’s not always easy to share our own journey but it’s so important in supporting and inspiring others and ourselves. <3

    1. I totally resonate with you Pamela. For a long time I was afraid of my calling because I didn’t want to be seen. After some thinking, meditation and energy healing, I was able to change my views and decided it was time to move forward. I’m so glad I did. Now, I feel so happy doing what I’m doing and knowing that what I’m doing is what I’m supposed to do in this life ;D
Thank you for writing about this Pamela!

      • I hear you Claudia! Changing our views is necessary in order to move forward. Awesome to hear that you’re happy and fulfilling your life purpose! Thank you for stopping by. 🙂

    2. Hi Pamela,

I believe that our fear of recognition and “being visible” comes from the fact that someone may overshadow us or take us down. It’s like the Sun being afraid to shine because clouds may show up and cover it. The stronger we feel our light is, the less we will be afraid of those “clouds”. Thank you for the excellent article!

      • Thank you for your insightful comment Zaria, great analogy! So true. Standing strong in our truth allows us to release the fear of being seen. When we understand that each of us has unique gifts to share, we no longer worry about the aspect of competition, being overshadowed or taken down. It really is about letting our own beautiful light shine!
